Top Summer Activities at Atlanta’s Piedmont Park

Summer’s here, and it’s the perfect time to head to the park for some outdoor fun! Atlanta’s Piedmont Park is a cornerstone of the city, hosting amazing summertime events for all to enjoy. From the park’s famous Green Market to free concerts, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Green Market
Summertime is the very best time to explore Piedmont Park’s Green Market. Starting in March and running through mid-December, the Green Market happens every Saturday from 9am to 1pm at the park’s 12th Street entrance. From May to November, the market features live music and a chef demonstration, as well as weekly activities for the kids. The summertime Watermelon Festival is special fun for everyone.

Now in its 10th year of operation, the Green Market showcases dozens of local vendors who specialize in sustainable farming, organic goods, and beautiful crafts.

Picnics and Grilling
Once you pick something up at the Green Market, go ahead and make your way to one of the grilling and picnic areas of the park. Covered pavilions are available, but be aware that they may be rented for an event. To ensure you have a space to enjoy your picnic, the park recommends bringing a comfortable blanket to lay on the grass or that you bring your own folding chairs. There are 22 charcoal grills provided throughout the park for your use. The park does not allow portable grills, so please only use the provided grills.

Walking & Jogging
If you want to enjoy Piedmont Park the way the locals do, you should try one of its many walking paths. Take a casual stroll or go all out with a steady jog. Paths typically range from 0.7 miles to 1.68 miles in length, but the park encourages guests to explore and find a path length that works for their exercising needs. With several beautiful fountains, lush terrain, and an amazing view of Atlanta, walking or running through Piedmont Park provides enjoyable exercise and great scenery.

Unplugged in the Park
Sundays during the summertime are one of the best times to enjoy Piedmont Park. Local restaurant Park Tavern, located on the edge of the park at the intersection of 10th Street and Monroe Drive, hosts a free concert series called Unplugged in the Park every Sunday night throughout the summer. You can either enjoy these shows from the restaurant’s lovely patio, or you can spread your blanket out on the park’s grass and enjoy your own lawn show. Be sure to show up a little early to claim the best spots.
